An Open Letter to the President and Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Dear Mr. President Mohammad Khatami,

Dear Members of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran,

As you know, the Turkish Parliament has recently passed amendments which enable the Kurdish people in Turkey to teach and propagate the Kurdish literature and culture. This opens the way to more political, civil and cultural rights of the Kurdish citizens of the Republic of Turkey.

We in the Kurdish PEN Center express our sincere desire to see Your Government and State advancing educational rights to the Kurdish compatriots living within the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We urge You to release all the Kurdish writers and intellectuals imprisoned for their love of the Kurdish language and homeland.

We hope that You share our vision to see the Islamic Republic of Iran as a natural protector of the Kurdish language and literature. By bringing together the literary heritage of the Kurds, Persians and other nations of the Middle East You can make a valuable contribution to the peace and prosperity in the region.

We wish You and Your Country every success!

Yours,

Dr. Zaradachet Hajo
