INVITATION

7TH INTERNATIONAL WRITERS IN PRISON COMMITTEE CONFERENCE

Glasgow, Scotland

4-6 April 2008

14 January 2008

The Scottish PEN Centre of International PEN and Karin Clark, Chair of International PEN’s Writers in Prison Committee, invite the Chairs and representatives of national PEN Centre Writers in Prison Committees to attend the 7th International Writers in Prison Committee Conference. This event will be held over 2 ½ days from Friday 4 April to Sunday 6 April 2008 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Conference provides an opportunity for all those involved in the WiPC based in over 60 Centres world-wide to meet and to discuss the work of the Committee, to make recommendations for the future and to establish a campaign programme for the next three years. The overall goal is to further International PEN’s campaign for an end to the repression of writers and writing worldwide

You are also invited to attend a public session organised by Scottish PEN titled The Freedom Game: The Future of Our Liberty. The aim of this session is to allow PEN delegates and others to share their own best practice in engaging with young people so that by the end of the session those participating have arrived at  a better understanding of how positive results might best be achieved. The session will include speakers, a workshop and discussion.

A preliminary draft agenda is attached. If you have any further ideas or comments, please contact us.

We very much hope that we will see you all in Glasgow. Please return the attached form by 15 February 2008. Also please indicate any topics you would like to see discussed at the Conference.
